Flooding in the new year

New Year 2020 rainfall in Jakarta is said to be the highest compared to more than 1.5 centuries ago. High rainfall is one of the factors causing floods in Greater Jakarta (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi). The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) conveyed that rainfall information delivered by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)

The DKI Jakarta Province Regional Information Management Officer (PPID) released combined data between the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Bappenas, BMKG, and Jakarta Open Data related to handling Jakarta floods on a scale of the last five years. As a result, floods in early 2020 are known to have higher rainfall per day than in 2013 and 2015, which is 377 mm compared to 100 mm and 277 mm.

The extreme weather that hit the capital city of Jakarta and its surroundings made various business activities totally paralyzed due to flooding. The velocity of money during the New Year holidays is expected to surge sharply and will be able to sustain Jakarta's economic growth, not as expected due to flooding. According to Sarman Simanjorang, Chairperson of the Indonesian Indigenous Entrepreneurs Association (HIPPI) of DKI Jakarta Province Sarman Simanjorang, floods that were classified as unexpectedly hit businesses in various sectors such as retail, restaurants, MSMEs, managers of tourist destinations, taxis, grabs and Gojek.

"Transaction losses or money circulation are estimated to reach trillions of Rupiah," Sarman said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday, January 12, 2020.

Efforts to anticipate extreme rain and floods can be done by the community. Related to floods that were driven by extreme rain events, the Head of Emergency Installation (IGD) of Awal Bros West Bekasi Hospital, Vian Setyawan explained that it was necessary to cooperate with various parties.

"The responsiveness and cooperation of various parties are needed in anticipating floods. It is better for the community to know where refugee camps are easily accessible and safe from disasters, both for refugees and aid workers," Vian advised Health Liputan6.com in a statement, written Friday (10/1 / 2020).
