Small exercise
Change it into passive voice using both indirect and direct object
1.      Someone handed Ann a menu at the restaurant.
Ann was handed a menu (by someone) at the restaurant (indirect object)
A menu was handed to Ann (by someone) at the restaurant (direct object)
2.      They will send you a bill at the end of the month.
You will be sent (by them) a bill  at the end of month. (indirect object)
A bill will be sent (by them) to you at the end of month. (direct object)

Antecedents of pronouns dan Dangling constructions.

Antecedent dari pronoun adalah kata (word), frasa (Phrase), maupun klausa (clause) yang dirujuk atau digantikan oleh pronoun tersebut. Umumnya antecedent ini telah muncul duluan sebelum pronoun nya.
Contoh: Yoannita loves her cat so much.
Dari contoh di atas pronoun yang digunakan adalah “her”, maka antecedent nya adalah “Yoannita”, karena kata inilah yang di rujuk atau digantikan oleh pronoun.
Pronoun-Antecedent Agreement adalah persesuaian pronoun dengan antecedent dalam hal:
·         number [singular(tunggal) atau plural (jamak)]
·         person [1st person, 2nd person, 3rd person]
·         gender [female (wanita), male (pria), neutral (netral)]

Contoh:
  1. Vina and Ipit have decided to do over their task.
  2. That woman or her friends often turn on their radio.
  3. Yulia and Fira spend their money to buy a lot of books yesterday.
  4. Dimas is naughty. I don’t like him.
  5. Mr. Baskora decided to sell his car to get extra money.
  6. Giana is my wife and she loves me so much.

Dangling modifier adalah sebuah kesalahan dalam struktur kalimat dimana ada ketidakcocokan antara apa yang dimaksud oleh penulis atau pembicara dengan apa yang dimaksud oleh pembaca atau pendengar. Kesalahan ini tentu akan menyebabkan kesalahpahaman. Maksud yang ingin disampaikan tidak akan tersampaikan secara utuh dan menyeluruh. Dangling Modifier dalam Bahasa Inggris biasanya terjadi karena si penulis atau pembicara tidak meletakkan Subjek kalimat pada awal induk kalimat.
Dangling Modifiers dalam kalimat terdiri dari :
  1. Main Clause, merupakan kalimat yang lengkap yang terdiri dari Subjek dan kata kerja (verb) dalam kalimat.
  2. Introductory Phrase, penggunaannya seperti  klausa, tetapi tidak mempunyai subjek dan kata kerja dan introductory phrase bergantung pada subjek dan kata kerja pada klausa utama.
Contoh:
  1. Running home from school, I was bitten by a dog.
  2. Having hidden the key in this pocket, George left town.
  3. To understand the directions, one must read them carefully.
  4. When only a child, I was taken to the cinema by my father.
  5. Playing in the street, the child was hit by the truck.
